'Songkran' The Traditional Thai New Year
Celebrate again with T.H.A.I. in Shirlington during the Thai New Year of the “Horse.”
The Year of the Horse symbolizes freedom, passionate energy, momentum, and the pursuit of new opportunities, making it a meaningful time for renewal and fresh beginnings.
Songkran, means “Festival of Pouring Water” (which officially begins April 13th.) Rooted in tradition, it has evolved into a joyful time for family gatherings and cultural rituals, with youngsters pouring water on to older family member to show respect. Girls help their mothers and grandmothers prepare big pots of noodles for family and friends who visit, since eating long noodles during Songkran is believed to increase chances of a long life and prosperity.
- Enjoy a special Thai menu designed by Chef/Owner Aulie Bunyarataphan to promote longevity and good health. The menu will also feature some items that are rare and never been offered to the American palate before.
- Pour water over a ceremonial Buddha, a ritual that is believed to flush away anything bad in your life and bring prosperity.
